Our Story

secret Valley has been home to the Hardwick family since the 1970's, when John and his wife Jan made the move from Bristol after farming in Portishead for a period of time. Today the farm is run by John and his sons Will & Rob,  the third generation of Hardwicks to farm at Cobbs Cross Farm.​

Dedicated to providing you with the highest quality meat which has been carefully reared on our family farm in Somerset. Our meat is reared, slaughtered and butchered llocally, ensuring full traceability and minimum food miles. We offer a pick-up option or we can deliver using our couriers.

A simple philosophy; is that the best beef comes from the richest environments, where the cattle can grow slowly on a diet of herbs, legumes & grasses. In return, the animals play a crucial role in creating diverse and resilient ecosystems and regenerating healthy, carbon-rich soils.

Over the years the farm has undergone a number of dynamic changes, as the business has explored different enterprise avenues and the beef herd is

and the introduction of the sheep flock in the early 1980's.​

The importance of the need for consumers to know where their food comes from and most importantly the essential need for them to buy meat from sustainable sources. 

Hester produces fresh, organic produce from local farmers in New York. Even our spices are fresh. Just because pickling is a preservation process doesn’t mean you can use dried-up thyme or week-old asparagus that’s already a little spongy.

We want to give our customers crisp, crunchy and delicious pickled vegetables and fruits. Most of all, we want to expand people’s palates and prove that pickles don’t always come in a green or red variety.
